I completed all of the reading and here are the answers to the reading questions:
READING
1. I read the article called "Rated A" by Marvin J. Ashton.
2. I learned a lot about the necessity of technology in the classroom in today's schools because the students are spending all of their time in front of computers at home and so if they are coming to class where there is no technology, then they will zone out. I also learned more about the dangers of cyberchatting and other social networking sites and how so many crimes are being committed daily so it is so important to educate our students about this so that they are staying out of trouble themselves and are more aware of what dangers are even out there.
3. I plan on creating security passwords for certain sites to just protect my children especially from viewing material that is inappropriate. I would also like to maybe show some videos to them about internet safety so that they will use sites like facebook and myspace with more caution.
4. I already have shown some of my siblings a few of the videos that I had to watch and I would like to keep these sites to then show my classroom students as well as my own future children.
WATCHING
1. I watched the BYU's illustration Faux Paw video and also watched several of the videos on technology in the classroom from the PBS Frontline site.
2. I want to teach my future students about the dangers of social networking sites. The most important thing that I learned was how emotionally damaging they can be. I had no idea the prevalence of internet pornography and usage and how many young children are involved in it. It's scary how many people, guys and girls, young and old, are sending and receiving pornographic photos.
DOING
1. I talked with my 13 year old brother and my boyfriend
2. I showed them the frontline videos about identity and social networking sites. They both thought that they were informative in a positive way. They learned the importance of using technology in the classroom that is engaging and entertaining because I will be working with a student base that is technologically savvy. My younger brother said that he hates seeing all the nasty pictures that girls put up and so he liked the video about self expression because it helped him to understand better the reasons girls do it and how damaging it can be based off of the comments that people leave.
